Florida State University students are spread across Tallahassee neighborhoods that may be a mile or more from the campus core. Walking home from a study group, a friend's apartment, or a restaurant in the College Town district at midnight is a reality for thousands of FSU students on any given night, during the hours when traditional campus transit has typically shut down. Students needed a practical, barrier-free way to get home safely at night.
Slidr launched FSU Safe Ride on March 30, 2026 with 3 vehicles and grew the fleet to 5 vehicles for fall 2026. The service runs every night during the fall and spring semesters, from 8:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Students, faculty, and staff request a ride in the app, track their driver in real time, and ride in an all-electric vehicle with a vetted driver, dash cameras, and live GPS tracking on every trip. Slidr provides the electric fleet, trained drivers, the branded rider app, commercial insurance, vehicle maintenance, charging logistics, and all daily dispatch operations.
From March 30 to September 29, 2026, FSU Safe Ride completed 11,757 rides for 1,888 unique riders across 148 operating nights, an average of 79.4 rides per night, with a peak of 297 rides on September 19.
