Today marks a milestone we have been working toward for over a year. Slidr has officially launched its first electric shuttle operation at the Cove Inn on Naples Bay, a boutique waterfront hotel nestled along one of the most scenic stretches of Southwest Florida's coastline. Starting this week, Cove Inn guests enjoy complimentary electric shuttle rides to 5th Avenue South, Tin City, and a curated selection of dining destinations throughout downtown Naples.
This is not just a launch for our company. It is the beginning of a fundamentally different approach to short-distance guest transportation, one that is electric, turnkey, and designed to enhance the hospitality experience rather than complicate it.
Why Naples, Why Now
Naples has long been one of the most walkable downtown areas in Florida. The stretch from the Naples Pier north along 5th Avenue is dense with restaurants, galleries, and shops. But for guests staying at waterfront properties like the Cove Inn, there is a gap. The hotel sits on Naples Bay, roughly a mile and a half from the heart of 5th Avenue. That distance is just far enough to make walking impractical in the Florida heat, especially for older guests or families with children, but too short to justify a traditional taxi or rideshare fare.
This is exactly the kind of transit gap Slidr was built to fill. We call it the "last two miles" problem, and it exists in every resort town, college campus, and master-planned community in the country. The distances are too short for traditional transit to be economical, but too long for most people to comfortably walk.
The Cove Inn Partnership
The Cove Inn is a 100-room boutique property with a loyal following. Guests return year after year for the intimate feel, the waterfront location, and the personalized service that larger hotels cannot replicate. When we approached the Cove Inn's management team, the conversation centered on one question: how do we give guests the freedom to explore Naples without adding complexity to their stay?
The answer was a fully managed electric shuttle program. Slidr provides the vehicles, the drivers, the scheduling, and the technology platform. The Cove Inn provides the guests and the brand. From the guest's perspective, the shuttle is simply part of the hotel experience, a complimentary amenity that appears when they need it.
Our vehicles are low-speed electric shuttles, street-legal on roads with speed limits of 35 mph or less, which covers nearly all of downtown Naples. They are quiet, open-air, and unmistakably branded. When a Slidr shuttle rolls down 5th Avenue, it turns heads. That visibility is part of the value proposition for our hotel partners.
The Founding Vision
Slidr was founded on a simple observation: the vast majority of trips people take in resort and campus environments are under three miles. At that distance, a full-size automobile is overkill. A gasoline engine is unnecessary. A $15 Uber fare is unreasonable for a hotel that is trying to make guests feel taken care of.
Electric low-speed vehicles are perfectly suited for these routes. They cost a fraction of what traditional vehicles cost to operate. They produce zero emissions. They are quiet enough to operate in residential neighborhoods without complaint. And they create an experience that guests genuinely enjoy. There is something about riding in an open-air electric shuttle through a beautiful downtown that makes people smile. That reaction is not incidental. It is central to our business model.
What Turnkey Means
We use the word "turnkey" deliberately. In the transit industry, operators typically expect their clients to manage some portion of the operation, whether that is vehicle maintenance, driver scheduling, insurance, or technology. We believe that model is fundamentally wrong for hospitality. A hotel GM should not be managing a fleet. A concierge should not be dispatching vehicles. A property manager should not be troubleshooting GPS hardware.
When we say turnkey, we mean it. Slidr handles vehicle procurement, maintenance, insurance, driver hiring and training, route planning, technology deployment, and ongoing operations management. Our hotel partners receive a fully operational shuttle program with a single point of contact and zero operational burden.
What Comes Next
Naples is our proving ground, but the model we are building here is designed to scale. Every resort town in America has the same last-two-miles problem. Every boutique hotel is looking for ways to differentiate from the chains. Every community is interested in reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions.
Over the coming months, we will be sharing data from our Naples operation: ridership numbers, guest satisfaction scores, operational costs, and the impact on hotel reviews. We believe the numbers will speak for themselves.
To the team at the Cove Inn, thank you for taking a chance on a new approach to guest transportation. To the Naples community, you will be seeing a lot more of us on your streets. And to the hospitality industry at large, pay attention. The way your guests get around is about to change.
